To honour all the long distance runners in my family, here and in Africa, canine and human, living and no longer with us, the puppies will be named after famous contemporary long distance runners.
The girls:
KARA. Kara Goucher is a US Marathon runner, who came in 3rd at the US Olympic Trials in 2012.
RADCLIFFE. Paula Radcliffe is an English marathoner and she holds the record for woman at 2hr.15min.25sec.
The boys:
MEB. Mebrahtom Keflezighi is an American marathon runner who originates from Eritrea and came 4th in the 2012 Olympic Games.
MO. Mo Farah is a British runner who came from Somalia originally and is the current Olympic 5000m and 10,000m Champion.
RUPP. Galen Rupp is an American runner who ran for the University of Oregon and was the silver medallist in the 10,000m at the Olympic games in 2012.
HAILE. Haile Gebreselassie is an Ethiopian runner who has recieved many accolades. He holds the Master's Age group record for the marathon at 2hr.03min.59s.
MUTAI. Geoffrey Mutai is a famous Kenyan road runner who ran the fastest Boston marathon ever in 2011, 2hr.03min02s and the world's best time for the marathon.
FORDYCE. Bruce Fordyce is a South African ultramarathoner and holds the record for 50 mile races.
